How to Import Documents Into the Google Notebook

How to Import Documents Into the Google Notebook thumbnail
Google Notebook provides a digital storage space for notes and ideas.

Google Notebook lets you store text-based notes or documents on Google servers, giving you access to them anywhere you have an Internet connection. While Google has halted development of Google Notebook to focus on its other document platform, Google Docs, users can still access the existing version, although new accounts are not supported. You can share notes between accounts or share using offline storage by exporting the note in XML format for later import.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to the Google Notebooks website using the Google account with the notes you wish to use.

    • 2

Select the desired notebook from the list on the left. Click the "Export" button, found along the bottom bar.

    • 3

Choose "Atom" from the list of export options. Select a location on your hard drive or a portable storage drive and save the document.

    • 4

Transfer the data to another computer if desired, and open the Google Notebooks website on that machine. Sign in using the Google account you wish to import the notebook into.

    • 5

Click "Manage notebooks" in the navigation pane on the left.

    • 6

In the "Import Atom Notebook (*.xml)" bar, click "Browse." Navigate to the notebook file on the computer's storage and click "Open." Press the "Import" button to begin the upload. The notebook will be added to the account's list of notes.

Tips & Warnings

• You can import non-Notebook documents using your operating system's "Copy" and "Paste" commands. If you don't want to import notes into a different account, you can share the notes instead. Click the "Sharing options" button in the top bar of the note you wish to share, and enter a collaborator's email address, or make the note public.

  • Google Notebook only works with text-based documents. Use Google Docs to import spreadsheet, presentation or art documents.
