How to Restore the Operating System on a Dell Latitude C600

Restoring a computer may help resolve many system issues.

The Dell Latitude C600 laptop can be restored back to factory settings without using a disk. A system restore may become necessary if the computer's system files are missing or corrupt. Restoration may also be necessary if the computer is infected with a virus. All of the software needed to restore the Dell Latitude C600 is preloaded on the hard disk drive of the computer.

Instructions

1. Back up the files on the computer using the "Back Up and Restore Center." Click "Start," then "Control Panel" and "Back Up and Restore Center" to access the program. Follow the prompts to back up the files.

2. Disconnect all external peripherals from the computer. Leave the mouse, monitor and keyboard connected to the computer.

3. Restart the computer, then press the "F8" key when the Windows logo appears and select "Repair Your Computer" from the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.

4. Select a language, then click "Next." Log in using an administrator's user name and password, then click "OK."

5. Select "Dell Factory Image Restore," then click "OK" and "Next."

6. Check the "Yes, Reformat Hard Drive and Restore System Software" box, then click "Next."

7. Click "Finish" when the system restoration completes.

8. Open the Back Up and Restore Center when the computer restarts and follow the prompts to reinstall the backup files.
