How to Put in a Full Head of Hair Extensions

How to Put in a Full Head of Hair Extensions thumbnail
Hair extensions can easily be applied at home.

Hair extensions are a quick and easy way to make short hair longer and thicker. Most types of hair extensions are best to have put in by a professional, require time and can be very costly. A full head of hair extensions can be done at home, using glue-in hair wefts or clip in hair wefts. These types of hair extensions can be done quickly and at a much lower cost than those done in a salon. The hair can be purchased at any wig store, online or at beauty stores. Instructions

    • 1

Section off the hair 1/4 of an inch from the hairline on the neck. Secure the hair above the part with a clip.

    • 2

Measure the length of the hair extension needed by holding it up to the part. Cut the hair weft at the appropriate length. For glue-in extensions, apply a thin layer of glue to the cut piece of hair extension.

    • 3

Apply the hair extension just below the part, by clipping in or gluing in the hair. Be sure not to get any glue on the scalp.

    • 4

Section off the hair another 1/4 in higher, and secure the remaining top hair with a clip. Apply the hair extension. Repeat these steps until you reach the crown of the head.

    • 5

Cut 2-inch sections off of the hair weft (for clip in extensions, these small pieces will be provided). Apply these sections 1/4 in above the ear. Repeat this step on both sides.

Tips & Warnings

  • A special tape can be used instead of glue for hair extensions. The tape is less damaging to the hair than the glue.

  • Synthetic and Natural hair can be purchased. Natural hair is of much better quality and can be styled the same as your hair would normally be.

  • Natural hair extensions can and should be washed.

  • Be sure not to get glue on the scalp. This could damage the root of the hair.
