How to Sync Files in Ubuntu

Ubuntu is a free, open-source Linux operating system. The default Ubuntu desktop system includes the Ubuntu One cloud storage and synchronization service. The Ubuntu One application backs up selected files and data online in your Ubuntu One account. You can synchronize these files by setting up Ubuntu One on multiple Ubuntu computers; files selected for synchronization are automatically downloaded to your other computers. You can even access your Ubuntu One files in a Web browser, if you're using a computer without Ubuntu installed.

Instructions

    • 1

Click your user name on the panel at the upper right corner of the Ubuntu desktop and click "Ubuntu One."

    • 2

Create a new account by clicking "New Account" in the Web browser that automatically opens. If you already have an account with the Ubuntu Launchpad service, you don't need to create a new account.

    • 3

Type your email address into the "Email Address" box, type the confirmation text into the box below it and click "Continue."

    • 4

Open your email in-box, click the "Ubuntu One" email and click the confirmation link in the email.

    • 5

Type your name and a password for the Ubuntu One account into the boxes and click "Continue."

    • 6

Click "Yes, Sign Me In" on the Web page.

    • 7

Click "Subscribe & Add This Computer."

    • 8

Click the "Ubuntu One Preferences" window on the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

    • 9

Click the "Devices" tab and click "Connect."

    • 10

Click the "Services" tab and click "File Synchronization."

    • 11

Open a file browser window by clicking "Places" and "Home Folder."

    • 12

Synchronize files with other computers by placing them in the "Ubuntu One" folder in the file browser window or synchronize folders by right-clicking them and choosing "Synchronize On Ubuntu One."

    • 13

Log in to your Ubuntu One account on your other Ubuntu computers.
