How to Store Almond Paste thumbnail
Almond paste can add an unusual flavor to desserts.

Almond paste is a mixture of ground almonds, sugar and water and is a common ingredient in many desserts. You can add it to anything from plain cookies to brownies for added flavor complexity and a hint of the aroma of almonds. You can make your own almond paste at home fairly easily, or you can buy it at most grocery stores. If you end up with more paste than you can use immediately---either your own or store-bought---you can store it for a few days to a week. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put the almond paste in a glass jar if you didn't purchase it in one from the store. Fill the jar as much as possible to allow the least amount of air to come into contact with the paste. Ideally the lid or plastic wrap should touch the almond paste when the jar is closed.

    • 2

Cover the jar tightly with plastic wrap and hold in place with the rubber band. Alternatively, if you have the lid that matches the jar, you may cover the jar with the lid instead of plastic wrap.

    • 3

Place the sealed jar of almond paste in your refrigerator if you will be keeping it for over a week. Otherwise you may leave it out on a counter or table.
