How to Join an AIM Chat Room

In AIM chat rooms, typing a smiley face denotes you're happy.

AOL Instant Messenger or AIM chat rooms are online rooms where you can meet new people and build relationships. Chatting in done in real time, meaning messages appear instantly, one after the other. You can chat with a person for an endless amount time as long as you and the person you're chatting with remains connected to the internet. You don't need to have AOL instant Messenger downloaded on your computer to enter an AIM chat room, but you do need an AIM chat user name.

Instructions

1. Go to the AIM chat website. (See Resources)

2. Click "Chat Now" to be taken a chat room where people are already chatting.

3. Click "Sign in to Join this Chat" at the bottom of the chat room window.

4. Enter your AOL Instant Messenger user name and password if you have one.You'll be immediately connected to the chat room. If you don't have a user name, click "Sign Up for an Account." AOL will sign you up for an AOL email address on the next page. To get an address, enter your name, password and desired email address. Agree to the terms of service and click "Submit."

5. Copy the AOL email address the site gives you and go back to the AIM Chat website and follow steps 1-3. After you click on the sign in link, paste in your AOL email address and password. You'll be immediately connected to the chat room.
