DIY Digital Coaxial Cable

Making do-it-yourself digital coaxial cables is exceedingly simple and cost-effective.

Digital coaxial cables are among the easiest cables to make. Digital coax carries digital information, and as a result, must operate ideally at 75-ohms to prevent dropouts and minimize jitter. RG-6 coaxial cable is a quad-shielded conductor, normally tasked with carrying far more data than what a DVD player or satellite receiver can present. The best part about making these cables is that no tools are required if the proper materials are chosen.

Things You'll Need

• Pre-terminated RG-6 coaxial cable
• F-to-RCA screw in adapters

Instructions

1. Examine the end of the RG-6 coaxial cable. Match the end of the F-to-RCA adapter to the end of the coax.

2. Insert the center conductor pin of the RG-6 cable into the small receiving hole on the end of the adapter. Press the pin fully into the hole until the threads on the cable and the adapter mate.

3. Screw the adapter into the female end of the RG-6 coax until fully seated. Repeat for the process for the other end of the cable.
