How to Restrict Access to Windows XP at Startup

Configure guest accounts to restrict access to Windows XP.

Windows XP users can set up multiple user accounts to make it easier to share the computer with multiple people. After setting up user accounts, Windows XP requires a user to log in with her personal username and password to access the computer. Users can also create a special guest account with restricted access for people who are not set up with a username and password.

Instructions

1. Log on to Windows XP using the administrator account. Click the "Start" menu and then select "Control Panel."

2. Click "User Accounts," then select "Create a new account" to launch the User Accounts Wizard.

3. Type a name for the first new user account and click the "Next" button. Click to select "Limited" as the account type, then click "Create Account."
