How to Make Paper Carolers

How to Make Paper Carolersthumbnail
Bring the musical spirit of carolers into your home this Christmas when you make paper carolers to decorate your house for the holidays.

During the Christmas holidays, carolers stroll down neighborhood streets or visit nursing homes and hospitals, spreading cheer through the gift of joyful music. If you want to bring this spirit of charity and kindness into your home, make paper carolers as a craft project and use them for your holiday decorating plans. This craft is eco-friendly because it finds a new use for old paper towel or toilet paper cardboard tubes, and it is suitable for crafters of all ages.

    Things You'll Need

    • Cardboard tube
    • Paint and paint brush
    • Craft paper
    • Scissors
    • Markers
    • Glue
    • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
      • 1

Paint a cardboard tube in a holiday color or whatever bright color you have on hand. This will form the body of the caroler craft. Let it dry as you continue with the other steps of the craft.

      • 2

Use flesh-colored craft paper, such as construction paper or scrapbook paper, to cut out a circle that is approximately two inches in diameter. Draw a face on this circle using a marker. Make the mouth in the shape of an "o" so it will look like the caroler is singing. Cut out two smaller circles as well, approximately the size of a pencil eraser. These will serve as the caroler's hands.

Cut a wide-based triangle out of craft paper in a color that coordinates with the paint you used on the cardboard tube. Fold this into a cone shape and glue the sides together to hold it. Add a small dot of glue on the tip of the cone and a thin line around the base. Attach some polyester fiberfill stuffing to the glued areas to make the trim. Now your caroler will have a hat to wear.

Take a small rectangle of white craft paper and fold it in half width-wise to make it look like a book. Write the words "Christmas Carols" on what would be the front cover of this book. On the opposite side, draw little musical notes with your marker.

Glue the face to the front side of the cardboard tube, approximately 1/2 inch down from the top edge. Glue the hat around the top rim of the cardboard tube and glue the side edges of the Christmas carols book to the front area of the caroler, approximately chest high. Glue it so the folded edge of the book sticks out from the caroler's body. Glue the small caroler's hands to the edges of the book and the body to make it look like the caroler is holding the book. Display it proudly on your mantle or another area of your home.
