How to Disable the Caps Lock Key in XP
The Caps Lock key is a key designed to automatically make each key you type an capitalized letter. To avoid using the Caps Lock key by accident you may disable the key altogether in Windows XP. To disable the Caps Lock key you must create a registry command and activate it. The key may not be disabled from the keyboard or in Windows settings.

Open the Windows XP Notepad by going to "Start" then "All Programs." Scroll over the "Accessories" folder and click on "Notepad."

Type the registry command "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,3a,00,00,00,00,00" into Notepad.

Save the file by going to "File" then "Save As." Type the file name "nocapslock.reg" making sure the file name ends with ".reg." Click "Save."

Locate the newly created file and double-click on the file icon. You will be automatically prompted to confirm whether to add the file to the Windows XP system registry. Click "Yes" to confirm.

Reboot your computer. The Caps Lock key will now be disabled.
