How to Drape Ribbon on a Christmas Tree
Ribbons are a beautiful alternative to garland for decorating a Christmas tree, one that gives you many options. You can use a patterned ribbon to match the theme of your tree if you have one, or go with a plain red velvet or silver ribbon. Use wide ribbon to make a statement, or thinner ribbon for a more subtle effect. Be creative when incorporating ribbon in your Christmas tree decorating scheme this year.

Garland Style
-
1
Cut lengths of ribbon so they are manageable. If you are using several different types of ribbon, cut them long enough to wrap around the tree at different intervals. Several long pieces of the same ribbbon will be easier to handle than one long length. Cut the ends of the ribbon to avoid a frayed look.
-
2
Start from the back and top of the tree. Place the ribbon loosely around the tree and drape it garland style on the branches.
-
3
Continue winding ribbon around the tree in this fashion until you are happy with how it looks. Wrap the other lengths of ribbon starting where the one previous left off.
-
4
Tuck the last piece of ribbon over a back bottom branch so it can't be seen. Finish decorating your tree with more ribbons to alternate with these, or other types of garlands.
Ribbon Spirals
-
1
Cut lengths of ribbon that are an inch shorter than your Christmas tree. Depending on how large your tree is, you may need about 4 or 5 pieces of ribbon.
-
2
Secure the pieces of ribbon to the top of the tree using ornament hangers or clips. Spread the ribbons an equal distance apart, all around the tree.
-
3
Create ribbon spirals with your fingers that trail all the way down your tree.
