How to Hot Curl Hair
If you have ever tried sleeping with hair rollers in your hair, then you know the difficulties that come with it. The plastic rollers fall out if you move around in your sleep. And even calm sleepers must contend with the headaches they experience after sleeping on hard plastic rollers all night. Then there's the sponge roller. Sponge rollers are much easier to sleep in, but they will not produce the results that you want if you are looking for big and bouncy curls. Hot curlers allow you to have the look that you want to achieve from the plastic rollers without the literal and figurative headaches that accompany it.

1
Shampoo and condition your hair. You need clean and conditioned hair if you want fresh, bouncy curls.
-
2
Apply heat protection to your hair before blow drying and detangling it. Note that some heat protection sprays double as detangling agents.
-
3
Make sure your hair is dry and tangle-free.

Use your blow dryer and comb attachment to gently dry and detangle your hair. Start detangling your hair from the ends and work your way up. If you begin detangling your hair from the scalp down, you will make existing tangles worse. This is especially true for those with naturally curly hair.

4
Smooth out your hair with a brush. If you want smooth curls, you will need to either smooth your hair out before you begin rolling your hair or smooth it out as you are rolling your hair. Either way, do not skip this step.
-
5
Roll your hair, starting at the top of your head, and rolling section by section. Wrap the ends all the way around the roller. Failing to completely wrap the ends around the roller will result in your curls looking more like question marks than curls.

6
Secure your curlers so that they do not fall out.

Secure your curlers with clips or pins to make sure they stay in place. Note that some sets of hot curlers come with clips.
-
7
Wait. The length of your wait will depend upon how tight you would like your curls and how long you would like your curls to last. The longer you wait, the tighter and more long-lasting your curls. This time frame can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 30 minutes.
-
8
Remove the hot curlers. If your hair is still hot when you remove the rollers, do not begin styling until your curls cool.
