How to Import & Sync a Palm & Mac Address Book

While iSync, the pre-installed phone synching software on Mac computers, cut support for Palm devices in Mac OS X 10.6, 10.5 and 10.4, it still offers support for certain Palms, such as the Tungsten and Zire family of Palm OS's. To sync your Palm with your Mac address book, you need to enable HotSync on your Palm device.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the Palm Desktop for Mac (see Resources). Open the "PalmDesktop.dmg" file that mounts on your desktop. Click on the "Install.pkg." Input your administrator password and click "Install."

    • 2

Plug your compatible Palm device into the Mac with the USB cable. Select "HotSync" from your Palm device's menu and open the Palm Desktop on your Mac, located in the Applications folder. The Palm device will automatically load any updates through the HotSync. (Ref 2)

    • 3

Open iSync on your Mac computer. It's in the Applications folder or on the Dock. Select "Enable Palm OS Synching" from the Device menu. Click "Continue" and choose the settings you want and click "Save." Quit iSync.

Open HotSync Manager in the Palm Desktop folder in your Applications folder. Select "Conduit Settings" and click on "iSync Conduit." Check the "Enable iSync for this Palm device" box. Click "OK."

    • 5

Open iSync and press the "HotSync" button on your Palm device. Select "Contacts" to sync your Mac Address Book with your Palm. Click "Sync Devices."
