How to Create a Rosebush Costume
A costume by any other name would not look or smell as sweet. Both little girls and big ones will feel fresh as a flower in this outfit. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 12 Tiny Green Butterfly Hair Clips
- Dark Green Masks
- RIT Dyes
- Flower Shears
- Gardening Gloves
- Heavy-duty Dark Green Threads
- Sprigs Of Rosebuds
- Superglue
- Lipstick
- 1 6-foot rose flower garlands
Instructions
-
-
1
Purchase a 6-foot flower garland made of roses.
-
2
Dress your child in a sweater, and then loosely wrap the end of the garland around the neckline of the sweater. Make sure the garland is wide enough to allow the sweater to be pulled over her head. Cut the garland at that point so that the two ends meet at the back of her neck.
-
-
3
Wrap the garland around each wrist and repeat the same measuring and cutting process.
-
4
Remove the sweater, and sew the garland strands around the neck and each wrist. A tight stitch every few inches will hold it in place while still allowing for some movement.
-
5
Cut all the roses from the remaining section of the garland, making sure to leave an inch of the stem, and put them aside.
-
6
Clip the rosebuds from the smaller sprigs and then superglue a rosebud to the tip of each finger on each glove. Make sure the glue dries completely before your child puts the gloves on. Dress your child in her green clothes, easing the sweater on last.
-
7
Decorate her hair using the leftover roses and butterfly clips. Arrange the clips around her head, and then slide the stem of each rose into the clip right before it closes.
-
8
Apply matching lipstick to her lips.

Tips & Warnings
If you can't find green clothing, you can use light-colored clothes instead and dye them the appropriate shade with dark-green Rit dye #35.
If you want to make sure the rosebuds don't fall off the tips of your gloves, take a few stitches through the tip of each finger and through the rosebud to make them more secure.
Make sure to buy the superglue that specifies on the package that it doesn't stick to skin. Otherwise, you may end up with roses glued to your hands as well as to your gloves.
To make the costume even more authentic, spray your little girl with rose perfume.
If you use a dark color of Rit dye to color the clothing, make sure that you wash each article in warm water before it's worn. After you are finished dyeing the article, thoroughly clean your washing machine. Run your machine empty on the largest hot cycle, and add detergent and 1 c. bleach to the cycle.

Adding a craft store bumblebee would be a cute addition to her hair; and perhaps a butterfly to the shoulder? -

You could take a piece of picket fence and carry the roses (if you have more than one rose bush in your garden) around together. This is a great way to display your perfect flower garden! -

Use a rose swag for a headpiece. Circle it around the wearer's head to get the most comfortable fit. Secure with an elastic band securely wrapped around the ends (be sure to pull off any extra greenery that gets in the way.)
