Instructions

    • 1

Consider the space available for your gym and how best to make it a well-organized, cohesive area.

    • 2

Choose a place for your heavy bag. This area will require the most space; you need to be able to move closer toward and further from bag and also move freely from side to side. Ideally you would have a three to four foot space all the way around the bag; if not, a semi-circle would do the trick.

    • 3

Install your heavy bag according to manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4

Decide on a place for your speed bag. You may use a smaller location for this; the only space you will need is for the bag and your body.

    • 5

Set up your speed bag according to manufacturer's instructions, using a speed bag swivel or platform.

    • 6

Consider where to place a double-end bag. Reserve plenty of space if you intend fot it to be a permanent fixture.

    • 7

Mount your double-end bag according to manufacturer's instructions.

    • 8

Designate sufficient space for a floor mat and any other punching bags or equipment you intend to use in your gym.

    • 9

Lay down the floor mat in your selected area. This will be ideal for push ups, crunches, jumping rope and any other exercises that would be uncomfortable on a hard floor.

    • 10

Arrange any additional equipment throughout the gym where needed.

    • 11

Situate your stereo or music player in a safe, accessible location.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may wish to purchase a free-standing heavy bag rather than mount one to the ceiling.

  • If you choose to use a weighted platform to mount the bag to the floor instead of bolting it down, you will be able to take the bag down when not in use to save space.

  • A mirror will be helpful for shadowboxing.

  • If you have space, install a pull-up bar and keep your jump rope handy for cardio training.

  • Compile a playlist of several four-minute songs to pace yourself. Rest for the first minute of the song, then work out hard until the song is over and repeat for a great workout.

  • If you choose to use a speed bag platform, reinforce the wall with wood before installation. Otherwise the screws will vibrate out and cause damage to drywall, concrete or even brick.
