Grape seed oil comes from the seeds of grapes. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, grape seeds have some health benefits, since are loaded with powerful antioxidants. If you are looking for a healthier way to fry your favorite foods, grape seed oil is an excellent choice. In addition to being good for you, the Cooking for Engineers website states that grape seed oil has a high burn rate of 420 degrees F. This means the grape seed oil won't begin to smoke and break down until it reaches 420 degrees F. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Frying pan or deep fryer

Instructions

      Purchase a bottle of grape seed oil. This is easier said than done since most grocery store chains do not carry it. You can, however, pick up a bottle at your local health-food store.

      Fill a deep frying pan with 2 inches of the grape seed oil. If you are using a deep fryer, pour the grape seed oil in until you reach the designated fill line.

      Turn the heat on your stove or deep fryer to high. This will heat the grape seed oil up to the point that it will be hot enough to fry your foods.

      Wet a finger or two and hold it high over the grape seed oil. Shake and let a drop of water fall in the grape seed oil. If it sizzles, the grape seed oil is ready for your food.

      Use a pair of tongs to carefully place your food in the grape seed oil. The length of time your food needs to stay in the grape seed oil depends on the type of food. A good general rule is to wait until both sides of the food are a nice golden brown color.

  • Peanut oil is another oil that has a high burn rate.

  • The grape seed oil can splash up and out of the pan during the cooking process. Always keep children and pets in another room while deep frying to prevent accidental burns.
