How to Set a Westell 6100 to Bridge Mode thumbnail
Bridge mode lets you use your own router with a modem.

A Westell 6100 is a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) modem used to provide broadband access to your home or office. A "bridge" is a network device that connects two parts of your network. By default, the Westell modem is programmed as a router. You must turn off the router settings on the modem to turn it into a bridge, which is useful if you already have a router on your network.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your web browser. In the browser's address bar, enter the modem's IP address and press "Enter." The default IP address for your Westell modem is "192.168.1.1."

    • 2

Enter "admin" for the user name and "password" for the password. These values are the default settings for the router's administrator.

    • 3

Click "Configuration," then click "Private LAN Connection." This opens a window with your current Westell settings.

    • 4

Remove the check mark next to the box labeled "Private LAN DHCP Server Enable." Click "Save" to apply the bridge configuration changes to your modem.

    • 5

Click the "Configuration" menu item again and select "VC Configuration." Select "Enable" from the first "Bridge" line item and then click the "Edit" button. In the "VC 1 Configurations" window, select "Bridge" in the drop-down box labeled "Mode." Click "Set VC" to save your changes.
