How to Redirect Your Domain Name
Domain names are word strings that function as an address on the Internet that directs people to a website. Domain names consist of words and/or numbers followed by a top-level domain, such as .org, .com or .info. Webmasters set up, or "direct," domain names to point to a specific web page. Situations such as starting a new website, purchasing a new domain name or changing the name of your business call for redirecting your original domain name to a new website. You can redirect your domain name in a few simple steps.

1
Email or call your web hosting service and ask for the names of your DNS servers, also known as name servers. DNS servers point your domain name to the numerical IP address of your website. Write down the names of the DNS servers.

2
Go to the domain name registrar's website where you registered your domain name. Log in using the username and password you created when you first registered your domain name.

3
Go to your "domain manager" page and click on "manage DNS" or a similarly-named function. According to The Site Wizard, website layouts vary widely between individual domain name registrars, so consult your registrar's Help page for website-specific information.

Type your DNS server names into the "name server" fields. Most websites have two DNS servers. The DNS server labeled "ns1" should go into the "Primary Server" box, while the DNS server labeled "ns2" should go into the "Secondary Server" box.
