It is a common misconception that you need to physically connect two Wii consoles in order to play games on them together. Two different Wii consoles are able to connect to one another, but it is through Internet access and not a special cable or infrared link. Connecting to another Wii allows you to play games with other friends or complete strangers online. Also, Nintendo built in online security for the Wii that allows you to pick and choose who will be able to play with you online.

Turn on the Wii console. At the Wii main menu select the “Wii options” button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen and click “A.”

Highlight the “Wii Settings” button and click “A.”

Select the “Internet” option from the second page of the listings. Hit “A” once “Internet" is highlighted.

Click “Console Information.” Write down the 12 digit “MAC Address” code. This is your “friend code” that you must give to anyone who wants to play with you online. Get the friend code for the second Wii console that you want to link to.

Insert the game that you wish to play online. At the Wii menu select “Game Channel.” Make sure that the game you are playing has Wi-Fi capabilities; this will be made apparent by a blue Wi-Fi symbol in the upper left corner of the game box.

Play the game and select the multiplayer options. You will be asked if you want to play with anonymous or specific online players. Enter the “friend code” of the friend you wish to play with. You will now be able to play online with one another.
