How to Convert Video Files to VOB Format
The VOB file format is used to encode videos that are formatted onto DVD. They are generally stored within a folder labeled VIDEO_TS and they can be accessed when the disc is exported as a file directory. VOB files are essentially digital videos since they contain an MPEG-2 codec. As a result, it is possible to convert other digital videos into VOB formats. iSkysoft Video Converter and iWisoft Free Video Converter are two file conversion programs that can be installed to re-format various digital video files as VOB files. Download and install iSkysoft Video Converter. The software can be obtained directly from the developer website.

Run iSkysoft Video Converter. Click the "Add" icon and search for the video input file in the file selection window. Select the item and click the "Open" button to load it into the program.

Open the "Convert to:" pull-down menu. Go to the "Others" section and select either "DVD-Video Format -- NTSC(*.vob)" or "DVD-Video Format -- PAL(*.vob)" depending on your region.

Click the "Start" button to launch the file conversion. A confirmation message will appear when the VOB output file has been successfully created. Click the "Find Target" button to access the video in its file directory.

Download and install iWisoft Free Video Converter. The freeware can be obtained directly from the developer website.

Run iWisoft Free Video Converter. Click the "Add" icon and search for the video input file in the file selection window. Select the item and click the "Open" button to load it into the program.

Open the "Convert file(s) to:" pull-down menu in the "Step 2" section. Select "vob."

Enter an e-mail address in the "Step 3" section. An e-mail will be sent to this address when the VOB output file is ready to download.

Click the "Convert" button to launch the file conversion. When the download notification e-mail has been received, follow the instructions to retrieve the VOB output file.

Tips & Warnings
iSkysoft Video Converter is free to use for a limited trial basis, while iWisoft Free Video Converter can be obtained without charge. Zamzar is can be used to convert any input file under 100MB for free.
Since most commercial DVDs are copy-protected, their VOB files will not be accessible.
