How to Reset an Xbox With Three Red Lights

The Xbox 360 gaming system has a lighted ring around the power button on the front of the console. When this ring lights up red and flashes, this indicates different issues with the system depending on how many lights are lit. When the ring has three red lights, this often means the system is having issues with the power supply. You can reset the Xbox by reconnecting the power supply or allowing it to cool.

Instructions

1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console.

2. Disconnect the power supply from the wall outlet and the console jack.

3. Remove the central connection cord from the power supply box and allow the box to cool at room temperature for two hours.

4. Clean the ventilation holes along the side of the power supply box to remove dust or debris that may be blocking airflow.

5. Plug the power supply cords back in to the power supply box, outlet and the back of the console.

6. Turn on your Xbox 360. If the three red lights still appear on your console, check the power supply light. If it displays no light or a red light, you may need to contact Xbox support for a power supply replacement.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not place the Xbox console or the power supply in an enclosed area. This restricts airflow and can cause overheating.
