How to Recycle Fax Toner
No matter what type of fax machine you own, eventually you will need to purchase a replacement toner cartridge for it. When you replace the worn out cartridge with a new one, you need to dispose of the old cartridge properly. The chemicals used in the manufacture of fax toner can be harmful if they seep into the environment, so simply throwing the cartridge away is not an option. Instead, recycle your old fax toner.

Check the box containing the new toner cartridge. Many replacement toner cartridges already include a prepaid shipping label you can use to recycle the old toner.

Log on to the website of the fax machine manufacturer and search for the word "recycle" or "recycling." Many fax makers, including major players like HP and Brother, operate toner recycling programs.

Click on the website link to print a return label for your toner cartridge. Write your return address on the label and tape it to the box. Close the box securely and contact the appropriate shipping company, such as USPS, UPS or FedEx, to pick up the package.

Office supply stores often have toner recycling programs. Many, including Staples, provide discounts and store credit for consumers who return their used toner cartridges to the store. Your local library, too, may participate in a toner recycling program, using the proceeds to raise money for their projects in the community.
