How to Crop in Adobe Illustrator Cs3
The more images you create in Adobe Illustrator, the more interesting your document becomes. The one thing you may find missing is a direct way to crop your images exactly like the ones found in other graphics software applications. You may use Illustrator's Clipping Mask to make interesting clipped images. The process is fairly simple and straightforward and only takes four steps. This is probably the easiest way crop any image in Illustrator.

Open Adobe Illustrator. You may drag the image you wish to edit to your Artboard from another application or select the Place option from the File tab on the main menu.

Choose the Rectangle tool from the Tools menu by clicking it with your mouse. You can also choose the Ellipse or Rounded Rectangle tool as an alternative.

Drag the shape over the part of the image you wish to remain visible after the crop. You may adjust the size and position as desired once the shape is in place.

Click the Selection tool on the Tools menu and click both the shape and the entire image while holding down the Shift key.

Select Clipping Mask from the Object menu and finally, Make. You may also press "Ctrl" and "7" as a shortcut. The image is cropped. If you are unhappy with the final result, you may press "Ctrl" and "Z" to restart the clipping effort and reposition or resize the target crop.
