How to Split an XP Partition
Dividing a single partition into two separate portions on your Windows XP system is necessary when you choose to reevaluate and restructure the hard drive arrangement for your computer. Perform this task by utilizing the partitioning tools in your XP operating system. This will remove the single partition and split it into two equal partitions, a process that takes around 30 minutes.

Insert the XP CD into the computer. Restart the computer.

Press any key when prompted to boot from disc.

Press "Enter" at the first screen and "F8" at the license terms.

Press "Esc" to load the partition manager.

Highlight the partition and press "D" to remove it. Press "C" and enter in half of the available partition size. Select the "NTFS" file system. Press "C" and repeat the procedure again to create a second partition from the original single partition.
