How to Upload My Music to the Internet to Play on MySpace

How to Upload My Music to the Internet to Play on MySpace thumbnail
MySpace lets musicians share their work on the web.

MySpace is a useful promotional tool for musicians. With it, you can create a band profile to share your music with anyone that has an internet connection, virtually eliminating the old-school method of making copies of your demo and handing them out at nightclubs. Any person with music of their own can upload it to MySpace by creating a band account, navigating the "Edit Profile" menu and using the provided upload window.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the MySpace home page and click on the "Sign Up" tab. If you already have a personal page, you can still create a separate band page for your music. Ignore the main section provided for creating an account and look to the right at the "Profile Types" area. Click on the selection that says "If you are a musician, sign up here." If you create a standard MySpace profile (rather than the musician/band profile), you can still share music from other profiles on your page, but you will not be able to upload any of your own music.

Fill out the necessary portions of the sign-up sheet. Read the terms of agreement and check the box confirming you've read and agree to the terms. Verify the provided security code and click the "Sign Up" button at the bottom of the screen. If you already have a personal MySpace profile, you will have to use a separate email address for your band profile.

Move your mouse pointer over the "Profile" tab on your newly created MySpace page and select "Edit Profile." This will bring you to a page with a multitude of options for customizing your profile and adding media to it. Click on the "Upload & Manage Songs" selection under the "Manage Media" section.

Click on the "Upload Songs" tab on the "Manage Songs" page. This will bring up a box where you can search for music files on your computer to add to your profile. When you select a song, it automatically uploads to MySpace. Should you select the wrong song, the upload can be canceled at any time during the process. You are able to upload 100 songs to your profile at a time and share 25 of them at once with the public. For those that you want to make public, click the "Public" button next to each one in the list of songs you have added. The maximum file size for a song is 50MB, and most file formats are supported.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use a MySpace profile to upload someone else's music without written consent. Doing so will cause your profile to be removed and may result in legal action.
