How to Set Ringtones on an HTC Touch
In 2007, HTC released the HTC Touch, a cell phone that doubled as a pocket PC. Incorporating a Windows Mobile 6 operating system, and using a unique user interface known as TouchFLO, the HTC Touch was released to a number of carriers. The operating system allows for the use of a number of file formats to produce ringtones, giving users an easily customizable ringtone system. Setting ringtones on an HTC Touch is an easy procedure.
Things You'll Need
- Audio file: MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, AAC+, AMR-NB, 40 polyphonic, or Standard MIDI format
- Windows Sound Recorder or other audio editing program

Setting a Ringtone

Start up your HTC Touch.

Tap on the "Start" button.

Tap on "Settings."

Tap on "Phone."

Customize the ringtone settings using the drop-down menus. You can select a tone, and change whether or not you want the phone to vibrate during calls.
Assigning Unique Ringtones

To assign a ringtone to an individual caller, start up your HTC Touch.

Tap on the "Start" button.

Tap on "Contacts."

Select a contact, then tap on "Menu."

Tap on "Edit." Scroll down to "Ringtone," and then tap it to find and assign a ringtone. Repeat as desired on other contacts to customize your contact list's ringtones.
Creating Custom Ringtones

Find an audio file you wish to use as a ringtone.

Use an audio editor to trim the file to the section you wish to play as a ringtone. For WAV format, Windows' Sound Recorder is sufficient. For other formats, you will need a separate program.

Connect your HTC Touch to your PC via the USB cable.

Save the edited audio file on your HTC Touch in the "My Ringtones" folder. It can be found in the "My Documents" folder on your HTC Touch.

Use either of the above methods to set your custom ringtones or assign them to individual contacts.

Tips & Warnings
The ideal file size for custom ringtones is about 600kb. This way, the files don't occupy much space, are short and concise, and should load and run quickly.
If you need to edit a format other than WAV, you'll need a third-party audio editing program. Audacity is free to download and capable of editing many different formats, including several of those listed.
