How to Put Subs in a Car

Installing sub-woofers in your car is something that must be done correctly so that the sub-woofer won't slide around while you are driving and cause damage to the sub, amp or other property in your trunk. The sub-woofer box will be mounted to the metal frame of the car trunk to ensure that the box doesn't move. You're going to need a few basic tools and components that you can pick up at your local hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the trunk of the car and pull the carpet lining back to expose the metal frame of the trunk. Place the sub-woofer box where you want it.

    • 2

Place an L bracket on the one side of the sub box and use the power drill and bit to drive a screw through the mounting hole on the L bracket and into the side of the box. Make sure that the bent part of the L bracket is flush with the edge of the box. Repeat for the opposite side of the box.

    • 3

Drill a small hole through the mounting hole on the L bracket into the metal frame of the car's trunk. Repeat for the opposite side. Pick up the box and replace the carpet to the floor of the trunk.

    • 4

Place the box on the trunk floor in the same place as before. Using the power drill and the drill bit, drive a small screw through the mounting holes on the L brackets to secure the box to the frame of the car's trunk.

Tips & Warnings

  • Every car is different, so you will need to get under the car's trunk and make sure that when you drill the holes into the frame, you don't hit or damage a component on the underside of the car like the gas tank, wires or hoses.
