How to Reboot a Flash Drive

The process of rebooting an electronic device simply refers to the practice of turning it off and turning it back on. The process of rebooting a flash drive is slightly different than that of a computer, because a flash drive contains no on or off switch. When your flash drive is plugged into your computer, it is "on." To reboot a flash drive you must safely remove it from your computer (to avoid data loss) and then plug it back in.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Computer."

    • 3

Right-click your flash drive icon. Click "Eject." This will safely remove the flash drive from your operating system.

    • 4

Pull your flash drive out of the USB port on your computer that it is plugged into. Because the flash drive is no longer connected to any type of a power source (your computer), it will turn off.

    • 5

Plug your flash drive back into your computer. This will power it on again, completing the reboot process.
