How to Edit a GIF Photo

Clip art files are sometimes in .gif format.

The .gif file extension indicates a photo or small clip of animation. You can download or purchase photo editing software to edit your .gif files, or you can upload them to a free online photo editor and make the changes you need there. This streamlines the process and keeps your computer memory free.

Instructions

1. Open your web browser and visit a free online photo editor. There are examples in the Resources section.

2. Select "File" or "Upload File" on the website. Scroll through your computer's files to locate the .gif file you want to edit. Double-click the file to select it, then click "Done". Wait for the file to upload.

3. Familiarize yourself with the editing tools on the website you have selected. You can usually add text or borders to the photo, adjust the animation, resize the file, or crop it. You can experiment with the tools without saving the file until you are familiar with them.

4. Make any adjustments to the .gif file using the online editor tools. Save the file to your desktop when you are done.
