How to Save Internet Explorer 6 to a CD

To get a copy of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6, you have to download it from the Internet. When downloaded, you only get a small file, not the full program. If you want a backup copy of Internet Explorer 6 on CD, you will have to enter your computer's command line to run Internet Explorer 6's setup application in a specific way.

      Download Internet Explorer 6's setup file, "ie6setup.exe," from Microsoft's website (see Resources). Create a new folder on your computer and name it whatever your want. For tutorial purposes, this article assumes you named the folder "newfolder."

      Copy the Internet Explorer 6 setup file to your new folder.

      Go to the Windows command line by pressing the "Start" menu icon, then "Run."

      Type "C:\newfolder\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E" into the command line, leaving all the quotation marks in. Change "newfolder" to whatever you named your folder.

      Accept the license agreement. Click "Next." Choose which operating systems you want Internet Explorer 6 to run on and click "Next." The program will now download in full.

      Insert a blank CD-R into your CD burner when the download completes. Open your CD burning software and burn your new folder to the CD.
