How to Drain a Hydrocollator
A hydrocollator is a device that heats and stores water and other liquids. It is often used in physical therapy, aroma therapy and other kinds of therapeutic practices. It is basically a heating unit for storing HotPacs that contain various liquids. Because of its function and use, one of the most important maintenance practices regarding the hydrocollator is drainage. Turn your hydrocollator off and unplug it form the power source. It is the first step and a necessary action every time you are engaging in cleaning, repair or maintenance of your hydrocollator.

Locate the drain valve on your hydrocollator. Although every model is slightly different, nearly all hydrocollators have the drain valve at the bottom, on the back side of the machine.

Open the drain valve of the hydrocollator to drain the excess water. Be sure to have a plastic container ready to catch all the water from the machine or drain the machine near a floor drain. You can also use an extension hose to drain the hydrocollator. When you have finished the draining process, if you collected it into a container, dispose of the water in a safe and responsible manner. You can pour the water into a floor drain, outside or down the toilet.

Remove the excess water from the inside of the hydrocollator with a towel.

Scour the inside of the hydrocollator with a mildly abrasive scrub pad or a sponge. Do not use an aggressive scrub pad or steel wool since you might damage the stainless steel finish of the machine.

Clean your hydrocollator, using a water and vinegar solution to remove any mold, mildew, dirt or other buildup. Make sure to rinse the inside of the hydrocollator immediately after cleaning it with a vinegar solution.

Tips & Warnings
Never uses chlorine when cleaning your hydrocollator, since it will damage the stainless steel surface of the machine.
Be sure to clean and disinfect your hydrocollator at least twice a month, otherwise the machine and the HotPacs could present a serious health hazard.
