Instructions for Miniature Macrame
Decorate a room in your dollhouse with a macrame wall hanging. When you have perfected your mini macrame techniques, you can also make a plant hanger for your house. Miniature macrame techniques can also be used for jewelry, key chains or other gifts. Make rings and bracelets that shine with beautiful glass beads. Macrame uses very inexpensive materials so you can afford to make jewelry to match every outfit in your wardrobe.

1
Make a holder for your wall hanging by cutting 1/2 inch off each end of a round toothpick. Glue a bead on each end. Cut 16 threads for your design 18 inches long or six times longer than you want the finished hanging to be.
-
2
Fold a thread in half and fold the loop of the thread over the toothpick so the ends are hanging down on the other side. Pull the ends of the thread through the loop. Pull the ends until the thread is tightly cinched around the toothpick with the two long ends hanging down. Repeat with the other threads until the toothpick is full of evenly spaced thread.

3
Place the toothpick on the foam core and hold it in place with pins. Smooth all the threads down evenly.
-
4
Knot the 1st and 4th threads together over the two threads in between, then knot them together under the two threads in between. Use the same knot you use when you start tying your shoes. Start the knot by placing the right thread over the left thread each time. Do the same with the 5th and 8th threads. Repeat this pattern all the way across the row.
-
5
Skip the first two threads on the second row and repeat the same pattern; knotting together the 3rd and 6th threads. Alternate these two rows until the hanging is the desired length. Finish the piece by tying the threads together at the bottom in groups of 4 with an overhand knot. An overhand knot is the knot you would tie in the end of a piece of thread.

Tips & Warnings
Use pins to hold the hanging in place as you tie the knots.
Add beads to the design if desired. Place them on the un-knotted threads between the knots.
If you tie tight knots you may find your hanging is narrower than the toothpick holder. This is easy to fix. Just shorten the toothpick and glue the beads back on.
