How do I Troubleshoot WaterBoss?

How do I Troubleshoot WaterBoss? thumbnail
A WaterBoss will soften and treat your household water.

If you have ever tried to wash your hair using "hard" water, you will understand the benefits of having a water softener and treatment unit installed in your home. "Soft" water creates a richer lather for soaps and shampoos and the skin feels softer after bathing. The WaterBoss water softener uses a salt and water mix to regenerate the water and then recycles it back into the water system for use in the home. If glitches occur with the unit, there are a few simple troubleshooting steps you can take. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Add salt to the brine cabinet if the water is not soft after water regeneration. Wait two hours, then press the "IMMEDIATE RECHARGE" button and hold for five seconds.

    • 2

Clean any sediment from the brine tank if no soft water is present after regeneration. Inspect the brine line and air check tube to see if any sediment from the brine tank has traveled to the lines. If sediment is visible, flush the tube out with clean water.

    • 3

Check to see if a salt bridge has formed between the water and the salt if no soft water is present after regeneration. High humidity or the incorrect type of salt can form a crust that creates an empty space between the salt and water. Push a blunt object or utensil into the salt bridge to dislodge it.

    • 4

Check that the unit is plumbed correctly, with the inlet and outlet lines connected to the right spigots, if no soft water is present. Ensure that the hoses are not pinched of bent.

    • 5

Remove any restrictions from the brine tank and check for pinched lines if excess water remains in the tank. The water level should be about 6 to 8 inches with salt for the WaterBoss and CityBoss and about 8 to 10 inches for the BigBoss.

    • 6

Check to see that the water level is correct relative to the salt level if the water is too salty. Check the lines for any loose connections.

    • 7

Flush any debris from the cold water lines before using the water softener. Turn on the water supply and allow the water to run through the lines for a full two to three minutes until the lines are completely clear of debris.
