How to Replace the Print Head on the I900D

The Canon i900D printer utilizes the same print technology as other inkjet printers, and that includes the use of a print head. The printer's print head contains numerous tiny nozzles that spray ink onto pinpoint areas on the paper. Although you must replace the printer's ink tanks when they run out of ink, you need to replace the print head only when you notice diminished quality in the printouts. Try running the printer's self-cleaning utility before replacing the print head.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the printer's "Power" button to turn it on. Allow the printer to finish its start-up processes before continuing.

    • 2

Unfold the printer's output tray completely. Lift up the printer's cover and wait for the cartridge assembly to move to the center of the printer.

    • 3

Open the inner cover to reveal the printer's ink tanks. Remove each ink tank by pinching the tab at the front of the ink tank as you lift it out of its slot.

    • 4

Pull up on the gray lever until it cannot move back any more. Grab the black plastic print head assembly and lift it straight up and out of the printer.

    • 5

Remove the new print head from its packaging. Place it in the empty slot. Lower the gray plastic lever until you hear a click.

    • 6

Replace each ink tank, making sure you hear a click from the front tab. Close the inner and top covers on the printer.
