1
Go to the salon and ask for short layers on the top and back of your head, with thick, slightly longer bangs in front that can be swept more to one side. You don't want to do this yourself at home, because you won't be able to see what you are doing in the back of your head. Short layers with long, side-swept bangs are a must for this dramatic look.

2
Wash your hair as you normally would and dab the excess water from your hair with a towel. Apply heat-protectant spray all over your hair, especially at the ends. Turn on your flat iron so it can begin heating up. Dry your hair thoroughly with a hairdryer.

3
Run the flat iron through your hair to get it stick straight. Even if your hair is naturally straight, you should use a flat iron to make it unnaturally straight for this look.
-
4
Separate your bangs from the rest of your hair by parting them off horizontally with a comb. Sweep more of them to one side than the other and do the same with the rest of your hair.
-
5
Grab a 2-inch section of hair at the top of your head and hold it straight up. Spray it near the roots with maximum-hold hair spray and use your comb to tease (brush in short downward strokes) near the roots. Continue this process until you have many spikes all over the top and on one side of your head.
-
6
Rub a pea-sized amount of gel between your fingers and apply it to the tips of your spikes to define them better. Finish by spraying a little more maximum-hold hair spray all over the spikes. Add a small amount of gel to the ends of your hair on the flat side so that they stand out slightly. Enjoy your JRock hairstyle.

Tips & Warnings
You can also spike the other side of your head, but have them point downward, or alternate the direction of each spike.
