How to Download a Bin File

Free-to-Air satellite services require a .bin file installed on the satellite receiver.

Free-to-air satellite television uses a ".bin" file to help instruct the receiver how to handle and receive the unscrambled programming stations. The files are available through the Internet and may be downloaded free of charge.

Things You'll Need

• USB flash drive

Instructions

1. Visit the satellite receiver manufacturer's website.

2. Select the "Support" option ("Updates" or "Downloads" may also be the correct link, depending on the website). This lists all of the .bin files available.

3. Click the download link next to the most recent .bin file update. A date for the release of the .bin file is listed next to the download link. This downloads the .bin file to your computer system.

4. Insert the USB flash drive into one of the USB ports on the computer system. Click "Start," "(My) Computer," then double-click the removable device icon.

   All of the files on the flash drive will appear. Click and drag the downloaded .bin file into the open window. Close the window, then right-click the removable device icon and choose "Eject." Disconnect the flash drive from the computer once the icon disappears.
