Windows XP registry is a crucial part of its operating system. The registry contains the coding for the operating system. If you access the registry, use extreme caution because even the slightest change can cause major issues. For access to the "Recovery Console", you must have the Windows XP installation disc and administrator password for the particular computer.

      Place the installation disc in the disc drive and restart the computer. As the computer restarts the system, ask if you would like to boot from the disc, so you will select "Yes" and allow the system to proceed.

      Type "R" in the text box then hit "Enter" which will take you to the "Repair and Recover section." Confirm the administrator password to proceed.

      Select "Recovery Console" and a command window will open. Enter "/regedit" in the command prompt line then hit "Enter". This will open the registry for your access.
