How to Make Envelopes for My 3 X 3 Cards
Don't hinder the heartwarming affect of your handmade 3- by 3-inch greeting cards by sending them in a plain and ill-fitting envelope. Envelopes that hold cards in uncommon sizes are costly and hard to find. Then, once you do find them they come in a limited number of colors. Make your own envelopes from paper that coordinates perfectly with the card the envelope will house.
Things You'll Need
- Printer paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Paper, such as high-quality printer paper, decorative scrapbook paper or wallpaper scraps
- Rounded corner paper punch

Instructions

1
Measure and mark a 3 1/2-inch square in the center of your printer paper.
-
2
Measure and mark out a 3 1/2- by 1-inch rectangle on the left and right edges of the square so the rectangles and square are connected.
-
-
3
Measure and mark out a 3 1/2-by-1 1/2-inch rectangle along the top of the square so the two are connected along one long edge of the rectangle.
-
4
Measure and mark out a 3 1/2- by 3-inch rectangle along the bottom of the square so the two are connected along a long edge of the rectangle.
-
5
Cut out the cross-like shape you have sketched, with the square and all the connected rectangles. This is your envelope template.
-
6
Trace the envelope template on the piece of paper you are using to make your envelope.
-
7
Cut the shape from the envelope paper.
-
8
Round all the corners of the shape with a rounded corner paper punch.
-
9
Score the shape along all the edges of the center square.
-
10
Fold the left and right rectangles in toward the center along the score lines.
-
11
Place lines of double-sided tape on the sides of the left and right rectangles that show when they are folded in toward the center.
-
12
Fold the bottom rectangle up and adhere it to the double-sided tape strips on the left and right rectangles to create the pouch of your envelope.
-
13
Fold the top rectangle down. Use double-sided tape to hold this flap closed once your card is in the envelope.
