Find a sturdy branch to perform pull-ups outside.

Pull-ups provide a highly effective upper body work out. You can always perform pull-ups on a gym machine or outside using the monkey bars or a sturdy branch, but performing pull-ups at home requires equipment. A pull-up bar allows you to perform pull-ups and chin-ups. Most pull-up bars can be installed in door frames in just a few minutes and are easily removed when you want to leave your doorway free.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the best doorway for the pull up bar. The door should be between 24 and 32 inches wide and should be located in the center of a room, rather than by the corner. Chose a door with a frame, so you have somewhere to hang the bar at the top. The door you select should be a part of a sturdy, thick wall.

    • 2

Hang the straight edge of the pull-up bar on your door frame. Place the straight edge on the top of the door frame, in the center of the door. Pull the bar down slightly to secure it. The pull up portion of the bar should hang down.

Test the strength of the bar by tugging on it gently. Perform an assisted pull-up to further test the integrity of the bar. Place a chair or milk crate under the bush up bar and stand on it. Perform pull-ups with your feet planted firmly on the chair or crate. If the pull-up bar feels study, remove the chair or crate.

Check the doorway about once a week for signs of damage. If you see any cracks or peeling immediately stop using the pull-up bar.
