How to Place Grommets
Grommets are small metal circles that are placed on fabric. They are typically used instead of button holes. They can be decorative or used as a place to thread ribbon or cording through. Large grommets can be used at the top of a curtain to hold it to the curtain or shower rod, while small ones can can be used for items such as a drawstring bag. Tiny grommets can even be used with paper in scrapbooks or homemade cards. Attaching grommets can be a noisy project, as it involves pounding them into the fabric or paper.

1
Lay the fabric on the table, right side up. Make sure the table is very sturdy, as you will be pounding hard on it. You can also use the floor instead, if you do not have a sturdy table.
-
2
Place a mark with a fabric pen where you want the grommet to go.
-
-
3
Place the grommet with the male part on the mark you just made. Grommets come in two pieces; the male side is larger, with a piece sticking up in the back while the female half looks like a washer.
-
4
Mark the entire fabric section inside the grommet and cut it out.
-
5
Place the same male part through the fabric, ensuring that the nice side of the grommet is on the right side of the fabric.
-
6
Place the opposite, female, half of the grommet on top of the male half of the grommet. It should be on the wrong side of the fabric.
-
7
Place the grommet tool on the female half of the grommet. Hammer it in place several times until the grommet pieces are as flush together as possible.
