How to Chat With People Online
Online chat refers to a direct, typed-out chat between one or more people in real time. Messages instantly appear on the screen one after another. If you know how to chat, you can make many friends and talk to people all over the world. If you don't chat, you're limited to talking to people on the phone or when you see them. There's more than one way to chat. Use instant messengers or online chat rooms.

Sign up at free chat room sites such as Wired Club, People Connection or Chat Connection. Choose a user name and enter your password and email address. Log in to the site. Click "chat now" to go to a list of chat rooms. Click on the room you want to join.
A chat screen will immediately pop up. Begin talking by entering text into the message field.

Sign up for Yahoo! Messenger at the Yahoo! Messenger website. Download the application. If you don't want to download anything, go to Yahoo! Messenger for the Web.
Click "Add Contact" from the contact tool bar. Enter the email address of the person you want to chat with. Chat by writing in the Messenger window and clicking "Send."

Go to the AOL messenger website and sign up for an account. Download the AOL Instant Messenger application. If you don't want to download anything, go to AIM Express.
Click the "Buddies" tab and "Add Buddy." Enter another person's AOL Instant Messenger user name or phone number. Click "Add." Wait for your chat buddy to come online. Chat with him in the Messenger window and click "Send" to send a message.
