How to Unzip a File on XP thumbnail
You can unzip a file on Windows XP.

Windows XP has built-in support for zip or compressed folders. You do not need third-party software installed on your computer to open up a .zip file. Opening a zip file using Windows XP's built-in zip feature takes under one minute. Zip files are used to put many files into one single file and to decrease the size of a file or folder.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to "Start" and "My Computer".

    • 2

Navigate to the folder that you store your zip files.

    • 3

Double click the zip file that you want to unzip.

    • 4

Select files within the zip file that you want to extract. Drag them to another folder to extract them.

    • 5

Choose "Extract All Files" if you want to decompress all of the files in that particular zip file. The File Extraction Wizard appears. Click "Next", choose an unzip location and click "Next". Choose "Finish" and the folder you extracted the files to appears.
