Instructions

    • 1

Open the box of bandages and lay them out in size order. You will need four of the smallest ones for the pinkie fingers and the forefingers.

    • 2

Lay out the wider bandages for the thumbs, middle and ring fingers. If all the bandages are the same size, use two small ones for each of the three middle fingers.

    • 3

Place a small bandage on the nail of each of the pinkie and forefingers. The padded section of the bandage should go over the nail.

    • 4

Put the other bandages on the other fingers. Make sure that the pads go across the nail beds. If you have to use two bandages, place the pad of one of the bandages across the nail bed.

    • 5

Dip each covered finger in lemon juice, cayenne pepper, hot sauce or white vinegar. If your fingers stray to your mouth, you will be reminded by the taste that the bandages are there to stop you from biting your nails.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your hands busy by taking up a hobby that involves using your hands. Learn how to knit, paint, play solitaire with cards or write short stories or poems. Keep the bandages on until the urge to bite your nails passes.

  • Wear cotton gloves if all else fails. You can dip the ends of the gloves in the same liquids you used to put on your bandaged fingers.

  • Use a strengthening agent once you have stopped biting your nails or treat yourself to a manicure as a reward for stopping a really unhealthy habit.

  • Do not use anything toxic to put on your nails to decrease the temptation to bite them.
