Drawing lines in MS Word may enhance the impact of a certain sentence, create multiple columns or separate the parts of your document into different segments. You can also use lines to make an area where you or others can provide feedback in written form to the text you created. If you want to draw a line in MS Word, you have various choices, including curved, arrowed and lines that zigzag on the page.

Instructions

    • 1

Open MS Word on your computer. Press the "Insert" function.

    • 2

Click on the word "Shapes" in the "Illustrations" grouping with your computer mouse. Wait for a series of drop-down choices to appear on your screen. Select one of the 12 lines from the line menu.

    • 3

Determine where you want your line to begin. Press the left mouse button and pull the mouse to the portion of your screen where you want your line to go. After you release your mouse button, the line ends.

Tips & Warnings

  • Modify the lines you draw by pressing your mouse on any anchor points that contain color. If you plan to change the location of the whole line, place your mouse on the line until you view the arrows that come up on your screen. This allows you to point and drag the item to any screen destination you choose.
