How to Repair Worn, Thin Dentures
Worn and thin dentures are common as the dentures age. The normal growth process of an individual changes the shape of the gums. Gums change with age and either weight gain or weight loss. Fix thin and worn dentures using a professional corrective reline material. The process takes approximately 30 minutes per denture plate. A clean surface area, such as a dining room or kitchen table, is required for the work. A watch or clock with a second hand and a timer is needed to complete the process. - Professional Corrective Reline Material
- Catalyst
- Craft stick

- Denture bowl

Clean the dentures thoroughly. Work with one plate at a time and begin with the bottom plate. Dry each denture plate thoroughly with a dry soft towel.

Place the dried plate on a clean flat surface such as a kitchen or dining room table. Let the dentures air-dry for five minutes before beginning the process.

Open the professional corrective reline material. Add the catalyst as directed. Stir the catalyst until it forms a thick pudding. This takes approximately 90 seconds.

Spread the mixture over the inside of the denture plate paying special attention to the areas that are thin. Spread the mixture into the indentation for the gums in a manner like spreading butter on a piece of bread.

Place the denture in the mouth and bit down for three minutes.

Remove the denture from the mouth and rinse with cool water. Never use hot water. It will make the material set up too quickly. Trim off any excess that spreads over the denture edges. Use a craft knife to trim the excess. Be careful not to cut into the denture material.

Reinsert the denture into the mouth and put in place. Bite down on the denture for three minutes. Remove the denture from the mouth and place on the flat surface for 20 minutes.

Rinse the denture in cool water after 20 minutes. Use a craft knife and trim away any excess professional corrective reline material.

Reinsert the denture into the mouth. The process is complete.

Make sure to follow the manufacturer's drying time and wait periods between steps.
As a corrective measure, wear the dentures for one to two days. File any areas that seem rough or uncomfortable with an emery file. Wash the dentures with cool water before wearing.
