How to Replace an HP 2200 Business Inkjet Print Head

The HP 2200 Inkjet printer utilizes liquid ink, as do all inkjet printers. Unlike many of HP's other inkjet printers, however, the 2200 has separate ink cartridges and print heads. The print heads contain the print nozzles, which direct the ink droplets onto the page. While you can maintain the print heads through regular cleaning using the printer's control panel, eventually they wear out and must be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the printer's "Power" switch to turn it on. Open the printer's ink cartridge door on the right side of the top of the printer.

    • 2

Open the print head compartment cover, located just behind the ink cartridge door. Identify the print head you want to replace by looking at the color-coded arrow decals in front of each print head slot.

    • 3

Pull on the front of the top edge of the print head you wish to replace, popping up a small handle on the top of the print head. Rotate the handle back until it locks into a position in which it points straight up.

    • 4

Grab the handle with your finger and thumb and remove the print head. Remove the wrapping on the new print head, including the clear protective tape on the bottom and back of the print head.

    • 5

Insert the new print head in the empty slot. Press the handle on the top of the cartridge down until it snaps into place. Close the printer's print head cover and ink cartridge door.

    • 6

Wait while the printer calibrates the new print head automatically. The printer has finished calibrating when it is silent again.
