Turning in an incomplete cover sheet can set you up for a poor book report grade.

Cover sheets (or cover pages) of book reports are important because they introduce your reader to the report's contents. It should include all the information your professor needs to identify the book being examined and who wrote the report (your name and information). If you neglect to include this material, you may get a lower grade or, in some extreme cases, no credit at all for your report. Make a good first impression on your professor by following some simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Refer to your course syllabus or book-report assignment to find specific instructions on how to format your cover page. Professors expect the cover page to include at least the title of your report, the book's title and your name, but most will also expect the cover page to have the report's due date, the professor's name and your course number.

    • 2

Open a blank document in your word processing program.

    • 3

Type the title of your report at the top. The title should be informative and precise and should accurately reflect the report's contents. Hit "Enter" and type the title of the book (italicized) and the author's name. Hit "Enter" three more times.

    • 4

Type your personal information. First, write your name and hit "Enter" three times. Then type the following information, single spaced and on separate lines: your course number and/or section number (hit "Enter"), the professor's name (hit "Enter") and the paper's due date.

    • 5

Select all of your text in the word processing document and choose to "Center Align" it in your formatting palette. This will make your text uniformly centered between the sides of the page. Then hit the "Enter" key multiple times at the top of the page, above the title, until it looks like all of the the text is centered equidistant between the top and bottom of the cover page. Formatting it this way makes it look neater and professional.

    • 6

Print the page and attach it to the front of your book report before turning it in.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a plain font such as Times New Roman or Arial to maintain your report's professional look.
