How to Make Cardboard Easter Baskets

Give your children, or the children in your Sunday School class, a fun place to stash their sweet Easter treats with a homemade Easter basket. Cardboard makes the perfect medium for making Easter baskets because it is sturdy, easy to find and easy to cut. A recycled cardboard container can be covered with decorative papers to transform it into a beautiful Easter basket.

Things You'll Need

• Cardboard milk carton
• Craft knife
• Tape measure
• Decorative scrapbook paper or wallpaper
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Decoupage medium
• Foam brush
• Self-adhesive foam letters
• Easter grass
• 1 foot of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon
• Hot-glue gun

Instructions

1. Cut off the bottom portion of your milk carton 5 inches up from the bottom, using a craft knife. Be careful not to cut your hand.

2. Trace all four sides of your milk carton onto the back of a piece of decorative scrapbook paper or wallpaper.

3. Cut out the pieces of paper for the sides.

4. Paint a layer of decoupage medium over the sides of the cut milk carton with a foam brush.

5. Adhere the corresponding pieces of paper to the sides of the carton.

6. Paint another layer of decoupage medium over the tops of the pieces of paper to seal them to the carton.

7. Let the carton dry completely, which usually takes one to two hours.

8. Hot-glue one end of a foot-long pieces of ribbon on the inside of one of the sides of the cut carton an inch down from the top. Glue the other end to the opposing side. Now your basket has a handle.

9. Add the child's name to her basket with self-adhesive foam letters so each child knows what basket is his on Easter morning.

10. Place a handful of Easter grass inside the basket.
