How to Disassemble a Glock 31

How to Disassemble a Glock 31 thumbnail
Glocks are the trusted service weapon of several law enforcement agencies.

The first Glock model was introduced in 1985, firing a 40-caliber round. Glock now has several models that fire a wide range of differently sized rounds. Polymers, rather than metal, comprise the majority of parts in a Glock weapon. "The disassembly and reassembly are easy because of the well-thought-out design as well as the small number of parts," according to Glock Parts, an independent retailer of Glock-specific weapon parts and accessories. The Glock 31, in particular, has a high-muzzle velocity and is accurate at medium range. Several law enforcement agencies chose it to be their official service weapon.

Instructions

  1. Field-stripping Your Weapon

    • 1

Remove the magazine and check the chamber to ensure that no ammunition remains in the weapon.

    • 2

Point the weapon in a safe direction and depress the trigger.

    • 3

Grasp the slide with your dominant hand and pull back no more than 1/16 of an inch. Pull the slide lock down with the thumb and index finger of your free hand and push the slide forward to separate it.

    • 4

Push the recoil spring slightly forward and raise it. Remove it from the slide.

    • 5

Grab the barrel on the barrel locking lugs. Lift and push it forward; then pull it back and out of the slide assembly. You should now be looking at the slide, the barrel, the recoil spring and the frame.

    Slide Disassembly

    • 6

Put on protective eyewear as parts of the slide and frame are spring-loaded.

    • 7

Use the punch tool to hold down the polymer spacer sleeve and then slide the slide cover off of the slide. The firing pin and extractor spring may pop out at this point.

    • 8

Slide the firing pin and extractor spring out of the slide.

    • 9

Press and hold the silver firing pin safety button and rotate the extractor out of the slide.

    • 10

Take out the firing pin safety and remove the firing pin safety spring.

    Frame Disassembly

    • 11

Jiggle the slide stop lever and push on the trigger pin at the same time. When the trigger pin begins to move, push the trigger pin out of the frame. Then remove the slide stop lever.

    • 12

Using the punch tool, push the locking block pin out and hold down the slide lock spring and pull the slide lock from the frame.

    • 13

Pry the locking block out, using the punch tool. Push out the trigger housing pin with the punch tool and gently pull the trigger housing from the frame.

    • 14

Remove the trigger assembly; rotate the trigger bar from the trigger housing and disconnect the trigger spring.

    • 15

Remove the connector from the trigger housing to finish the frame disassembly.

Tips & Warnings

  • The spring-loaded pieces can pop out. When reassembling the weapon, make sure the slide block lip is pointed away from the muzzle.

  • Always make sure a weapon is unloaded before disassembling it. Always wear eye protection when disassembling a firearm.
