Format your text in Microsoft Word to make certain words or phrases stand out from the rest. You can apply text effects to your documents using the Format Text Effects menu pane. Use the Glow effect to make the exterior of your font blurred. Use the Transparency effect to apply transparency to the interior fill of your font. You can match the color of your font with the glow effect to make the blur more effective.

Step 1

Select the text in Word that you wish to apply the effects to.

Click on the "Text Effects and Typology" drop-down button, resembling an icon of an outlined letter A, in the Font group of the Home ribbon and then select "Glow Options." Alternatively, you can select one of the colored glow presets directly from the Glow menu.

Click on the "Color" drop-down button under Glow in the Format Text Effects pane and then select a color for your effect. For example, select the black color if you want the blur to match a blank font color.

Step 4

Select a size from the "Size" slider to determine the size of your glow effect. For example, a larger size will increase the blur effect.

Step 5

Click and drag the "Transparency" slider to adjust the transparency of your glow effect.

Click on the "Text Fill & Outline" button in the Format Text Effects pane, resembling an icon of the letter A with a blue bar.

Step 7

Click on "Text Fill" and then enter a value into the "Transparency" box. For example, enter "25%" to make your font partially transparent.
